You are among a handful of women that come to mind when I read this book. When I read the Bitch excerpt I actually sobbed. I had to put down the magazine, cry, take a break and then come back. The book though hasn't had that effect on me. The focuses more on eating disorders as the result of perfectionism than the perfectionism itself. I think the drive for perfectionism in young women is played out in all the articles I've read about how hard it is to get into good colleges these days, the crazy loads high school students take on, the rising percentage of women in higher education, and also in the constant "mommy war" bullshit articles. And because women have to be porn stars too, we're just constantly damned if we do and damned if we don't. When we're so beset and anxious, the onyl thing we have control over is our bodies. And thin is pretty and pretty wins.

God, it's just depressing. I told Adam the other day that I want to take on all the fat in all the world so women everywhere don't have to worry about it. Seriously, I read these stories about women thinking fat is the worst thing ever and I want to go out and eat an entire cake just to be contrary.

Did you know that 2/3 of women surveyed said they'd rather be run over by a truck than fat?! When did being over weight become the worst thing in the world?

I could go on for days....
