I love your description of California land as friendly. There are the crazy extremes which aren't quite so outgoing - Death Valley, for example - but the vast majority of the land here is just ... gregarious. Outgoing. Charming.

I'm also fond of cemeteries - they often make me a bit melancholy, because I find it sad that things must pass away. But they are often so beautiful that I can't help loving them.
