If this is what being conservative means, I might sign up. This article amuses me. Who knew I'd enjoy reading the Weekly Standard?

Except this part is kind of annoying: "We've had nearly three decades to educate the electorate about freedom, responsibility, and the evils of collectivism". See, we just need to be "educated" and then of course we'll agree with everything they say. I didn't realize that we hadn't already had their propaganda shoved down our throat for the past 30 years...

Oh of course. And there's that line that about educated people choosing conservatism and only the insane choosing to be liberal. It's still propaganda. I'm not saying I agree with every sentence...

P. J. is funny -- that's a fact -- but he's talking about Conservatism the way people used to talk about Christianity, as in, "that's mighty Christian of you." I'm all for personal responsibility too, as long as that isn't a code word for abolishing the safety net and despising the poor. It's that kind of code language that makes it impossible to have a real conversation in this country.
