I am pregnant. Yes, you already knew that. What you may not be aware of is that I can already sense the pregnancy hormones coursing through my veins. And what that means is that my tact is even more diminished than normal. I read a one page article in the Economist and one paragraph set me off fuming. Now, all the thoughts I had were thoughts I would agree with on a non-pregnant day, but it's the *intensity* of it that is rather surprising.

However, I kind of like it. It's nice to just be in a Fuck All Y'all place. Or a place where I can freely cry. God, I wish I could cry normally, so relieving! The next 7.5 months would be an extremely bad time to try to convince me that feminism is a form of mind-control by the lesbian separatists. Or that Obama is really a socialist. Or basically to disagree with me on anything.

Please note that you have been warned.

Interesting Is this a generational mind set?
When we were pregnant back in the dark ages of second wave feminism we were determined to prove pregnancy made no difference in our efficiency.

I came across country in a u-haul truck at three months pregnant. Settled into a new house and went back to work at six months pregnant organizing a new intake system for a social work agency. I worked until two days before my delivery. Never missed a day and only the last month was a bit stressful. And that because I had to repeatedly deal with the same agency over the same issue.

Pregnancy was a bar to employment. I was refused my old job because I was pregnant. A more forward looking agency was happy to hire me. We wanted no concessions made to our pregnancy. There are still women who fight to do their job even though pregnant. The radio this morning had a piece on pregnant war correspondents in Iraq.

Women are strong! Historically they have born their children under the most adverse circumstances and carried on. We do what we have to do and what we want to do.

What is a generational mind set? That being pregnant is hard? No, it's just fact. I don't believe anything that has been written here contradicts the idea that women are strong. I moved house at 5 months pregnant. I worked. I never had a real maternity leave. I took my baby to work with me. We didn't and don't own a car, so I walk every where.

And still my hormones are surging. Pregnancy does change a woman. How could it not? It's absurd to think that it wouldn't. This doesn't mean that women can't still work, and do it well.

Must just be attitude.
My friends and I pregnant in the early "70's did NOT cry. We made a point of having our emotions under control because men expected us to be emotional and therefore "inferior". We had some thing to prove. If our hormones surged I guess we just ignored them. Women were considered to be "irrational" when pregnant. We were out to prove that notion wrong.

You sound quite capable.
Blessings

I am very glad not to have been a woman in the 70s!
