On Friday I went with
fictional_emily to see the South Korean monster movie, "The Host." It wasn't particularly gory or scary, and felt a little long, but otherwise it was a fun movie. Funny, with interesting characters, and some interesting perspectives on the US in Korea (basically, we fuck everything up and then blame others).
This afternoon Adam and I are leaving work a little early to see a matinee of Into Great Silence, a film about Carthusian monks. It's mostly silent since the monks rarely speak. I am really looking forward to seeing this. My expectations for the film are that it will be pretty and perhaps feel a little like going to church. I like good church experiences and will take them in just about any form I can get them. Short of actually going to church.
"Short Bus" has been sitting at home for weeks. I think I'm waiting for just the right time to watch to it. Tonight was going to be it, but instead of graphic sex and modern relationships, I'm going to go see a group of celibate men living holy lives not much changed since 1084.

Into Great Silence is beautiful and LONG. It's pushing three hours. I did not know that going in. However, it's exceptionally lovely and very meditative. If you are ever about to go on retreat, silent or not, this would be a good start to it. Maybe even an excellent film to watch during your day of silence!

well of course, you guys may have a different opinion of the film, but that was my response to its sexual content.

maybe. sometimes on silence day it's nice to listen to music or tv/film because you can't speak. other times i want to go to some remote area and not encounter anyone.
