Culling
Adam and I just culled at least 25% of our books. It was easy. We've always struggled with what to keep, what to get rid of; we've been very stingy. We really must be ready to leave because it was just bam, zap, pow. Comic books, fiction, poetry, women's history, loads of poker books...
(I won't pay for shipping or type them all out, but if you're a real book hoarder I can email you my phone number and we can go through them and if you pay for shipping, I'll totally give them to you!)
My goal now is to work through the books I haven't read that I decided to keep. Hardcovers first, then paperbacks. We are planning to do another cull closer to when we move. Whenever that is.

You know, I should just come down to Oakland sometime soon without anything else on my plate and just hang out...once you're in Wales, it's going to be so much harder to visit you! (Although it will give me an excellent excuse to finally make that trip to the British Isles...)

I used to find it quite difficult to part with books, even ones that I didn't really enjoy. I'm not sure what changed, but now I can get rid of them quite easily, and I only keep the ones I really love.

we have a library in our house with books that we each have had for over 30 or 40 years... books are like air to me.

we are also packrats. can you tell?

The piano. That's a hard one. My mother shipped it to me from Alaska. It was the piano we got when I was 5 and I still remember the day it was delivered! But I don't really play piano and I'm not singing much these days, so it's getting no love. Why stick it in storage for several years to moulder? We're certainly not paying to move it to Wales. Sigh.
