*House? Massive disaster. Dishes stacked in and around sink. Books in boxes, some on shelves, mostly stacked on the floor awaiting to be sold tomorrow. Dust bunnies float about and breed.

*Accomplished today? Got rid of 20 years of sheet music and scores, plus my MA notes. Sorted my photos. Still have two file boxes and a chest of "stuff" to sort through.

*Dinner? Will be pizza. And hopefully either an episode of True Blood (so good!), Party Down, or Scrubs.

*Baby? Miserable, mildly neglected, tired, regressing. Thankfully passed out cold for nap #2. Possibly traumatized from watching an episode of True Blood with us. I'm not sure he should see such lasciviousness, even if he won't remember it.

*Adam? Selling off our wares on Craiglist and burning all of our CDs to an external hard drive. The two dressers, tv, mini dresser (currently manifested as a tv stand), our camping back packs, his trail bike, and a clarinet are posted. We have sold my piano, his fancy street bike, a vintage saxophone and one entertainment chest. Oof. Bookshelves and bed are next.

*Me? Ok. Drinking Laphroaig.

Wow, that level of purging sounds tough. Did you scan the sheet music, at least, or is it just gone? (Our garage is full of music; we'll have to get rid of it eventually but first I will check every last box to save the best stuff for myself, for no good reason.)

I kept the bound editions and the songs I actually sing. I had been keeping my favorite everything, but you know? I haven't used any of that stuff in 10 years. Only my favorites ever get used. So.... into the recycle bin it goes!

As crazy as it must feel....I bet it also must feel very cleansing to shedding years of 'stuff'.

YES. I resisted at first. We *finally* have a few items of real, non-Ikea furniture..... and we're getting rid of them. It's hard. But it is tremendously freeing. Especially purging the books and cds and clothing and papers and and and.

Hard and worthy work. My love and best wishes to you as you do it!

I've put in a couple weeks of repairs and purging, and I can say that living in the same place for nearly-20 years leads to all kinds of accretions (those last few things that you don't get rid of each time you purge add up over time).

And then there are all the artifacts of "the way we lived X years ago" or "the promise I made to myself that I'd get back to this hobby some day".

SO useful to deal with all of it.

I don't think there's a new episode of True Blood tonight. Which is a bummer.

Your post totally made me want pizza, which is BAD. We have shitloads of leftovers that need to be eaten.

We don't watch tv on tv. We have dvds or we watch illegally via the internet. Digital living, ho!

is selling all your stuff & buying new again cheaper than shipping it across seas? I can't imagine selling our stuff, it's taken us so long to have 'real' furniture & be able to fill a house.

It's just such a hassle to hire movers. Selling off our items and the money saved by not hiring movers gives us more money when we get there. Most places in the UK are furnished (from what we hear). It's really freeing to let go of a lot of this stuff. I am sad for a few select items, but they are all replaceable.
