So, besides musing myself into a sinus cold, what have Adam and I been up to here? On Sunday night there was a party. A joint birthday party for myself and Andrew. A typical party like everywhere else: people getting together, drinking beer, bitching about work and eachother. Good times. I appreciated Andy's contribution of gin and juice. He claimed it was appropriate for someone now living in CA. I laughed.
Also, the ex and his new girlfriend showed. It was unexpected. I was thankful, but disappointed. That seems to sum up much of this trip so far. I guess I had hoped that if they showed it would have been to chat a little... no, it seemed it was really just to show up slightly drunk and be seen.
Monday involved a hike up Mt Roberts. The peak is at 3,888 ft. We didn't do the last 1000 ft. I've been working out pretty regularly all semester, but for some reason my knees were really bothering me once we passed the tram. It's been a while since my knees gave me trouble. I thought the weights I'd been doing would have helped more. Still, it was beautiful. I love the alpine meadow. The rocks and lichens. The patches of snow. Adam hit me with a snowball. We got to see a couple paraglide off the side of the mountain. Like flying. I want to do that at least once in my life. Just jump off the mountain and soar above the channel like an eagle. We hiked the trail down too. I thought about tramming down (easier for the knees), but there were so many tourists the line was backed up farther than I've ever seen it. Tourists. The tram. Part of me thinks it's great that people can get above the tree line and have such a spectacular view, but.... part of me is like "Hike up the mountain like everyone else, you lazy bastards!" Mostly, I just try to ignore the tourists.
Yesterday, Adam and I went downtown. Got coffee at the Heritage that Brie works at. Heritage is taking over this town- there's a coffee stand at everyplace possible! Wish I liked their coffee. Got my hair cut at Alana's barber shop. Ran into Meilani and Sander and little Zayden. Stopped into see another friend.... got chastised for inviting him to the party and got no love in the slightest. It was odd. Later, grilled salmon for dinner, a game of scrabble, went to see Harry Potter #3 (quite good).
Today we head out to the end of the road.
