Talking about any one of the following topics inevitably means talking about the others: weddings, family, money, Alaska. The confluence is guaranteed to make me cry.

I would rather expend my energy on music and singing these days. Been dreaming about singing and music. I am seeing two shows this week: Hem on Tuesday and Bernard Fanning on Friday. Last Friday I received a singing challenge: find and sing a Dolly Parton tune. I own no Dolly. I am taking requests. What shall I down load and learn?

I don't know if I said properly at Feast Bay that your singing is lovely. It's an excellent thing to spend your energy on, something that you love and that you're good at.

I like "Sinwagon" myself. Also, "To Daddy," but I don't know if that counts since she wrote it for Emmylou Harris.

Thank you again for your feedback (ahem, I mean compliment). I will definitely look into those songs. Dolly's been writing music for others for most of her career. I remember when I found out that the "I will always love you" song that Whitney Houston sang was a Dolly original.

ooh, ooh

you knows i loves me some Dolly
i'm so excited -- who gave you this challenge?
anyhow, i don't think I Will Always Love You is a bad choice -- it'll be a challenge to get all the Whitney out
also, 9 to 5 is one of my all time favorite songs to karaoke (which, i admit, doesn't have much to do with what's good to sing)
but, some actuall suggestions:
Shine On (it's gospely)
The Grass is Blue (blue-grassy -- surprise)
Silver & Gold
To Know Him is to Love Him (pure cheese from Trio, the Dolly/Emmylou/Linda Ronstadt album -- one of my favorite things as a child, i still get this song in my head all the time)
i'll keep thinking and get back to you tonight!
(can you tell i'm excited?)

Thanks for these! The Future Gov. of Alaska challenged me. We were thinking of singing some Hem together for Feast Bay, but it just wasn't happening and she said that she'd like me to sing Hem all on my own. Then, in an almost duel-like fashion, she challenged me to find, learn, and sing a Dolly Parton song. So I will!

I'm glad you're excited. I'm really trying to quit longing for the voice I don't have and start embracing the one I do. Hmmm.... do you know harmonies for "To Know Him is to Love Him"? Could we duet some time?
