I just can't take Valentine's Day seriously. I've never been one to celebrate it, get worked up over it, or really even care. Why must we institute a commercial "holiday" that reinforces notions of stereotypical heterosexual affection? Having said that, I am actually doing something today. It was suggested that I plan something, so.... in the spirit of all that is romantically cheesey I am going all out: Flowers (red tulips), a plate of cheese for snacks and becuase CHEESE is highly appropriate, dinner at an Italian resturaunt with that hideous Rapheal cherub theme, stopping by a neurotic couple's valentine party.... and I'm going to wear my pink cardigan with the Love/Hate embroidery.

I hope all of you are doing something either equally ridiculous, or completely normal and unrelated to red/pink/hearts/flowers.

And I know I'm a day late about this, but I now know why Friday the 13th is bad luck: on Friday, OCt 13, 1307, Philip IV of France ambushed the Knights Templar. It was a large scale operation, so well co-ordinated that Knights Templar all over France were rounded up and then accused of desecrating the Catholic faith and of homosexual activity (only two people were actually convicted of same-sex activity). Turns out Philip owed a ton of money to the Knights, which at the time was the most powerful and wealthy of all the Catholic orders. And now you know.
