Only 56 more days until Christmas!

I just made my holiday plans: 9 days in Anchorage with the sis, the nieces and the Future Gov. of Alaska. Many attempts to get an itinerary that didn't involve multiple layovers or 12 hours of travel time and a hefty chunk of change later, the tickets have been purchased! This makes trip number three to Alaska in one calendar year and I couldn't be more excited. It's gonna be dark, cold and full of joy!!

(And the best part of it? My mum is buying the tickets!! The gratitude is oozing out of me.)

I have only been to Venice and a couple of surrounding villages, and to the duomo in Milan for a couple of hours before flying out. Choir tour, college.

so many people i know have been to italy on a choir tour. either that says something about choir tours or italy just loves singers.

mary always seems so oddly young to me in st. peter's la pieta. like she is barely older than jesus, and in some light i think she looks younger than jesus.

Oh boy, do I have some thoughts on the young looking Mary! One of these I'll post about it, but it's totally wrapped up in gendered ideas of women within the church (particularly the Catholic church).

oh, i'd be interested in hearing those thoughts someday. i've always found the st. peter's pieta odd with the young looking mary, but it seems even odder to me now that i've seen michelangelo's second pieta, the one he started for his own tomb and never finished. the marys are pretty different.
