The home stretch

Ok people. If ever the was a time my heart could get broken it's this week.

The doctors are gearing us up for Benn's release later this week. He hasn't had any bradys for a couple of days. His antibiotics will done on Thursday (I hate that he has to have them this early in his life, but it is clearing up his UTI). He has to pass the car seat test and have no more bradys and then..... Thursday or Friday he'll come home. !!! For the next two days I am going to spend 12 hours straight with him "rooming in." This way we can get more acquainted with one another and I can exclusively breast feed. Then, at night the nurses will bottle feed him (breast milk) so that he is fully ready to feed at home. In preparation for that the nurse removed his nasal tube today.

If he doesn't come home this time, I'm not sure I'll be able to withstand this start and stop, almost but not quite, back and forth.

I can't wait to get off hospital time and onto Benn time. I can't wait to take him for walks. To live a normal life with a baby. Sheesh. Let's get this started already!

BTW - has he had a bottle at all yet? If he hasn't is there a possibility that they could dropper-feed him instead? It just seems so early to use an artificial nipple! Of course, if your breastfeeding relationships is already well established it shouldn't matter much. :)

He had already tried a bottle and did well. But only a couple of times. I've prefered to have the nose tube to make sure that the breast feeding gets established. I was nervous that when I moved to one feeding a day (with boob) that he'd forget or something, but that hasn't happened! He feeds really well. I do use a plastic nipple shield, because my his mouth is so small and my nipples are rather large. I suspect that at this point it's all plastic to him. Eventually I'll get rid of the shield. But, breast feeding is so much more awesome than I was expecting!

I am so glad you guys are doing so well with it. It seems like you just "clicked", and that is what happened with Niyama. If the shield helps, I would continue, definitely since he's so small yet. Congratulations!

hmmm, i do. not daily, sometimes not even weekly, but generally the urge to record my rather dull but nonetheless very enjoyable life strikes maybe 10-15 times a month. i just checked my filters and there's no reason for why you shouldn't be able to see my posts. strange.


oh no. again! what a run around he's giving you. i can't fathom being in your shoes. =[ it's probably no consolation to you today, but he WILL come home. maybe tomorrow, maybe a week from now, but it'll be sooner than later. oy.
