He is risen! (a bit premature)
Apr. 6th, 2007 02:27 pmIt dawned on me this morning as I was biking to work that it's Good Friday. I have been immersed in the Jewish world. I've been getting holidays off for Passover and Adam and I are going to a seder at our Executive Director's house tonight. I haven't been to church on Easter (or for any reason) in a long time, yet completely spacing on it this year has me thrown. What exactly does this tradition mean to me? More than I think. I like Easter. Were I in a more thoughtful mood I might even muse a bit on the various subtleties of the holy day, particularly how it's so similar to certain Eleusynian mysteries and other pre-Christian cults. But, I'm not in a theological frame of mind today, even though Jesus has been on my mind all day, sort of quietly tucked in the back of my brain.
On Easter itself I and three girlfriends (Future Gov'nor of Alaska, B, and another woman I am not close to but have also known since the 9th grade) are all going to some little place near San Luis Obispo on the California coast. We are renting a swanky B&B room, getting massages, going hiking, and soaking in mineral baths for two whole days. And drinking. There will be good wine and a 14 year old bottle of port. Hot damn, I am so excited. I will try to think of Jesus on Sunday as I am squeeing with delight.
See you all next Wednesday!
