WTF Oakland?

Every day I check the news headlines and there's another shooting or another restaurant robbery. Every neighborhood is being targeted in this restaurant thing - even the chi-chi parts of town. If they're hitting North Oakland and Rockridge maybe they'll do Berkeley next? Unless Berkeley's police actually arrive when called....

Thankfully none of the shootings are near my apartment building.

Despite these two rather big deal crime sprees, I feel safe living here. Still though. Yet one more reason not to raise kids here....

agreed. I love oakland and all, but sheesh when josh and i went out to dinner the other night all we brought was our drivers licenses and the card we planned on using! oakland has come a long way since the 'good old days' but still needs a ton of work .

I actually think Oakland is way cool. I like it so much more than San Francisco, for living in anyway. They are sort of like apples and oranges. But Oakland is great! Except for all of the things that make me second guess raising kids here.

I should've clarifed. It's great, if you want to live in a city. And I don't. Every morning I wake up and want to move back to Alaska. Adam LOVES it here, though, and we have jobs. But we will move in a few years. I say that with certainty.
