After 5 1/2 years in the Bay Area, I finally have reservations to eat at Chez Panisse! I spent my 32nd birthday at the Chez Panisse cafe and that was one of my top 5 dining experiences - food, ambiance, service. I am so excited to eat in the main restaurant! 6.30pm, Friday Dec. 26.

Is it hard to get a reservation?

(I'm guessing yes if you had to go 3 weeks out to secure one...)

Yeah, you have to book several weeks in advance. But they only accept reservations one month out.

YUM!!!! I had lunch in the cafe maybe 5 years ago and I'm still drooling over that caramel pot-de-crème...

mmmmmm.

i think it's pretty awesome how reasonable it is for such a famous (and DELICIOUS) restaurant.

have fun!

hopefully you'll be lucky enough to wind up with some dish that you've never had before. if i remember correctly, friday is a pretty fancy-pants night for their menu.

i think the next big restaurant that i really want to try is the herb farm. every been there? outside of seattle?

No, I've never been, but I want to! I also want to eat the French Laundry in Yountville/Napa.

Chez Panisse posts their menu a week ahead of time, so I'll try to post it later this month. It'll be the perfect post-Christmas treat.

the friends we went with to chez panisse told us about their trip to french laundry. i think they're pretty foody people and they went with a group of eight, featuring a couple of cooks/gourmands. our friends told us that while their dinnermates seemed to really love and appreciate the food, they felt like it was over their head.

not to mention over $400 for a set meal! i'm thinking that if we end up going to one of thomas keller's spots that i'd like to try per se rather than french laundry. if only because the set is closer to $200.

I suspect Keller's bistros would be more enjoyable, When I first got here French Laundry's meals were $200. I could save that up. But $400 now? Wow, inflation sucks.
