Today I introduced B to broccoli. So far so good.

Questions are courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] keypike.
1.How did you first get interested in the sacred feminine? On one hand I feel like this is an obvious question: I'm a woman, how could I not be interested? But I realize that not everyone is as obsessed with religion as I am. I got fed up with the gendered baloney/patriarchy in Christianity in college and started looking for expressions of Christianity that might be more welcoming for women. I read a bunch of goddess stuff and got interested in the Virgin Mary. This led me to the Catholic church and then to the Eastern Orthodox church. My love of Mary and the feminine divine continues to lead my spiritual thinking. Basically, I believe in god, always have, and yet resented the continuous male language and imagery used to describe god. This practice directly relates to the devaluing of women.

2. Describe something B does that makes you laugh. Besides just existing? If he laughs, I laugh. His laughter is contagious!

3. What most attracted you to A? Do you know what most attracted him to you? Well, when I first met him we had a great discussion about books. We both like Oscar Wilde and talked about humor. Then I was impressed that he could throw down phrases like "prelapsarian" with out blinking. HOT. He wasn't intimidated by my studies or past. And his shoulders are amazing.

I have no idea what first attracted him to me. I'm cute?

4. What do you wish you knew about motherhood before you had B? That breastfeeding doesn't just happen. That I would be changed at the molecular level - I CANNOT hear about harm done to children and not viscerally react. It's not that I liked that stuff before, but now I react in such a way as that I cannot help but assume my DNA is altered.

5. What does a 'perfect' Sunday look like for you? I have no idea anymore. It would start with all three of us getting a really good night's sleep, waking up rested and happy. Brunch with friends. A happy B-ster. Yoga in the evening. B going down easily for the night. An uninterrupted movie with an uninterrupted dinner and some wine.

I like your idea of a perfect Sunday. :D

I feel the same way about motherhood. It really does change you. I suddenly have compassion for all children everywhere. Hormones, perhaps?

Your perfect Sunday sounds lovely. And I completely agree about motherhood. We've had a few students die over the 9 years I've been at this school, none of whom I've known, but the one this year hit me so much harder than any of the previous. I think about Drayke and Shiny every single day.

You asked for questions from me (and, I just noticed, from J; hope this isn't too much quizzing!). Here they are:

1. You value book smarts, have a big vocabulary, and are working on a PhD. Surely you must have a cultural dirty little secret, something you enjoy but don't always mention in polite company? Did you at least read Sweet Valley High back in the day?
2. What made you go car-free, and is there anything you could imagine changing your mind?
3. You've referred to your checkered past, including at least one LTR with a woman. Does bisexuality still play any role in your life?
4. Your description of your night at Chez Panisse made me drool, and you've mentioned other meals that sounded pretty good. What would a perfect dinner party look like: food, location, company?
5. What vocal performance are you most proud of?
5.
