Jun. 10th, 2004 01:39 pmThere is no sign at the end of the road anymore. There used to be a sign that said END. I wonder if people in favor of the road out of town took it. (For those not in the know, you can't access Juneau by car, only boat or plane, and no, it's not on an island.) I love driving out the road. It's so peaceful and green and the road is windy. Very conducive to talking.
We stopped at Eagle Beach and at the Shrine of St Therese. They have a new prayer labrynth. I enjoyed that a lot. I just started walking it, not in any sort of prayerful state of mind, but my soul received a few words of wisdom anyway. I am thankful for unexpected grace.
I have indeed come down with a nasty cold. Didn't go to open mic at the Imperial last night. Just couldn't bear to inhale all the cigarette smoke. I'm feeling so lazy.
It's hard to come home and try to pack in friends and fun in just a short time. As Sander said on Sunday, Juneau isn't really a good place to just come and visit; the best parts only reveal themselves once you live here. I agree. There's not much to do in a city or down south sort of way. During the summer it's tourist stuff or just hanging out in the long light of summer and talking big and drinking beer. Which, when the eagles are soaring above or the bonfire is glistening on the water, is just fine with me.
