I seem to have developed a television habit. It started primarily thanks to [livejournal.com profile] goddessofmercy for hooking my on Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD. She kept suggesting other good stuff to watch. Adam and I had a whole netflix queue just for tv shows. We also get free cable. Thankfully, I am no ethics teacher and I happily accept this free gift with my rent. (I hope I haven't just jinxed it by admitting it publicly.) It's so helpful for things like random viewings of The Daily Show, the Discovery Channels Planet Earth, and The Pussycat Dolls search for the next Pussycat Doll. TV brings us all down to the lowest common denominator at some point or another, no?

But when not fueling my urge to vote, travel or be 20 again, television comes in handy for things like NBA Playoffs. Oakland's Golden State Warriors might very well knock out the number one team! They heroically came close last night. It's fun to root for the home team.

Last night I also indulged in another of my favorite tv pop-culture shows, Veronica Marrs. Seasons 1 and 2 (seen on DVD) were great. Season 3 has been disappointing. Disjointed, narratively uncertain, and very overly concerned with Veronica's love life. Did anyone else see last night's show - the first after a several month hiatus?

i stopped watching vm 7 episodes into this season and i don't think i will ever start watching it again. i'm pretending that season3 never happened and that parts of s2 are fuzzy. i've read a lot of comments and recaps on my flist though...mostly "we love mac!" and "how can rob thomas possibly believe veronica is exactly the same as she was in s1?" stuff.

VM is strapped for ideas! I think the whole not being certain they were getting a whole season stifled their flow. Coming back after several months off is just a bad idea. There is little character development. Mac and Wallace are sorely underused. Bleh. And it's crappy seasons like this that will ensure they don't get picked up for a normal season 4 fun.

So sad.

i hope it doesn't get renewed, and it bothers me that rob thomas made unwatchable to me a show i loved so much.

I hope it does get renewed, BUT gets a full season upfront so they can go back to character development and mystery arcs. I think the big problem is since they were unsure about how many episodes they were going to get everything was disjointed and they couldn't set up a mystery they weren't sure could be solved. The second, minor problem is being on the CW and every one's lip gloss is just so *poppin'* but I may be the only person who finds that annoying.

i don't think the lower episode order was the problem. i personally think rob thomas is the problem. he spent years writing a ya novel, converted it into an amazing season of television and then was unable to sustain it or pay attention to the actors he has and the work they are doing during a regular television season.
