National Coming Out Day
Oct. 11th, 2007 10:14 amI've always thought "National Days of" are kind of weird. One day to celebrate mothers, fathers, secretaries, etc. and one day a year to come out of the closet. But still, what's not to encourage about coming out? So come out, come out where ever you are! If you are gay, lesbian, bi, queer, gender queer, pagan or in any other way kept in a closet - feel free to come out!
Of course, that's significantly easier done in my life: I live in the perhaps the most progressive urban area in the United States; I work in a progressive and feminist organization (not officially, but we keep the office culture deliberately open); I am married to a secure feminist man who has no issues with my weird Christo-pagan ways or queer past/present; me and my friends don't give a damn about whom or how you sleep with people just so long as all parties are consenting and no one's getting hurt.
As I told my niece when she was four (and I was a little tipsy at the time): you can be anything you want to be - you don't even have to be a girl!
