Mar. 10th, 2006 10:22 amI question if I've really made the best choice. I'm not just wimping out of the PhD am I? I just can't do everything. I'm only human. There is plenty of time to do it all, just not at once.
A flicker of enthusiasm throws everything up in disarray again. I feel like the most unstable person I know. I'm reading a book that has been recommended to me by various sources, Brian McClaren's A Generous Orthodoxy, in which he basically says he's all these different kinds of Christian. The writing is just okay, he's got a space between every paragraph, I'm not sure what that's about. However, his points are good to hear in this day and age of freakin' religious nutjobs co-opting the good name of Jesus for their compassionless agendas. I rather agree with his ideas. I even feel like I'm somewhat like him in that I'm a bit of this and a bit of that, I'm both Quaker and Eastern Orthodox in spirit, I'm post-modern but also oriented toward the ancient, I'm over the false dichotomy of "liberal" and "conservative." The book is a little tedious, but McClaren certainly has his finger on something vital. I hope it catches on. I'm even thinking of purchasing a copy and sending it to my not-quite-in-laws.
