Music lovers - Help!
Sep. 22nd, 2008 09:03 amIn two weeks Adam, Bennett and I are going to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass at Golden Gate Park. Absolutely free, outdoors, awesome. Even the hundred thousand people don't bother me. However, this year it looks like the organizers stacked Sunday. I recognize nearly everyone on the list. I fear it will be freakishly crowded. But Saturday I recognize nearly no one!
So. Those of you who know a little something about roots music (
donkeyfly,
ginger_root,
automata, I'm thinking of you three specifically), can you please take a look at the schedule and tell me what I should hear on Saturday?
I'd be so grateful!
In other music news, I think I'm going to opera tomorrow night, to see Die Tote Stadt. WHEE!

On Saturday... (I'm ashamed that I'm not more up on a few of the bands listed, unfortunately)
Dry Branch Fire Squad (I've only heard a few of their tunes, but I liked them)
Richard Thompson (oh yes)
Three Girls & Their Buddy looks AWESOME
The Gourds will be funny and fun and up-tempo
Steve Earle (I've always wanted to see him)
Meanwhile, all of the bands on Sunday are making my HEAD EXPLODE. I'm SO jealous!!!! Did you need Sunday recommendations?

Date: 2008-09-22 08:18 pm (UTC)last spring i had one of the most powerful musical experiences of my life when we went to see dry branch fire squad at rivergrass in portland. GO SEE THEM! they're absolutely amazing. i kid you not when i say that they had everyone in the audience in tears. literally. i cried.
other amazing people on saturday:
the del mcCoury band
- super awesome traditional bluegrass band. the first big time bluegrass band i ever loved.
three girls and their buddy
- all three of these ladies are stellar singers, but i think patty griffin might be one of my all-time favorite song writers.
steve earle & the bluegrass dukes
- rowdy and awesome bluegrassy country
i also really like mark olson, but i don't know what he's been playing lately, he was one of the instigators of alt country.
beyond that, i know there are people on this saturday list that i've heard of, but i would need andrew to remind me of who they actually are.
SO JEALOUS!
