It bothers me that pretty much all of these books are from Western Europe, or are taught in the Western European tradition. Just because literature hasn't entered that canon doesn't mean it's not great. I mean, there is one South American writer (Marquez), and only one writer who even comes from Asian decent (Kingston). ARGGGHHH.

Yeah, I hadn't thought about the western bias, but I assume that when I'm an english language reader. Also, there are few more modern titles. I find that I've read most of these authors, just not the titles that the board deems important. I mean, War and Peace vs Anna Karenina??

Woof.

Only one asterix? Out of all of those great books you've not read? Perhaps you ought to read your one choice in the original language. You, know, just for a challenge.

Wonky as fuck

Probably should have been two, since 'portrait of an artist' is something essential. Do you know how hard cien anos is to read in english? Spanish would be that much harder.
