The bad news
*I miss my laptop
*I also noticed that my ipod is gone, and my pitchfinder/metronome
*I feel creepy, wary, angry and disappointed
*I did not sleep well last night. Every creak caused my eyes to fling open and my ears to strain. Plus, there was that weird smell of pot smoke in the bedroom and hallway at 3am. The apt manager came up last night to talk to us about the break in and we mentioned the smoke. He said they don't smoke. ....?? Do the fey smoke? We either have smoking fairies or it's them, I just don't know who else it could be!
*Bennett MUST BE NEAR MOMMY AT ALL TIMES
*I have 15 lbs of passed out baby in my left arm as I type with one hand - he will not be put down
*We have closed the blinds to all windows except the tree buffered ones behind Adam's desk. It looks dark, small and uninviting in here now

The good news
*We are safe and unharmed
*Nothing truly irreplaceable or deeply sentimental was taken. The silver bracelet was given to me by my mother, but it wasn't my favorite
*Our house was not trashed
*Bennett went to bed (at 11.30pm) with out a fuss! He HAD to sleep near me, so I guess we're back to bed sharing. As long as he doesn't fight sleep with weeping and gnashing of teeth each night, I'm happy
*We have renters insurance
*The police were nice and helpful
*I talked with my boss yesterday and we will negotiate raises for everyone!

Thank goodness for insurance. The loss of the ideas on the laptop is a big one, I'm sure, but at least the financial loss won't be too horrible. And hooray for raises!

We didn't have insurance (oops) when our place got robbed back in March, but it happened on the one day a year I'd happened to take my laptop to work.

You were robbed while pregnant? I probably would have lost it big time. The financial loss isn't so bad. Just .... my lap top! All my music, bookmarks, some PhD files (which are mostly recoverable thank god), my story... none of which I had backed up. GAH.

Here's (http://livingdeadpan.livejournal.com/210375.html) my entry about it. Same kind of deal as yours - obviously young and not too aware of what was worth what.

After my home was broken into (the guy stole ALL of my underwear - wtf?) it was quite a while before I wasn't scared/pissed off. Felt like it wasn't *my* home anymore. That did wear off, though.

Your underwear?? That is weird. Yeah, I'm going to be fine.

I just want to grab the fuckers and shake them and say "Keep your hands to yourself!" Bah. But it is time to move. This building, lovely though it is, is not very secure and not in a great part of town. With the economy going south I expect these sorts of petty crimes will increase.

I am grateful they didn't take the stuff that really meant a lot to us (art, the other silver bracelet right next to the one the took, Adam's computer) or trashed stuff that would have been hard to replace (my altar, the art, the kitchen, etc).

Boo to burglars and pot-smoking fey. Hooray for a payrise!

I'm glad your good list outweighs the bad (if not in number of items, than at least in scale).

Why would they take a metronome? I can't imagine it's something that's easy to sell quickly for cash.

It was a pitchpipe/metronome - digital. But it's only worth $40. I don't know. The whole thing is weird. I had two silver bracelets (like, thick, solid carved silver bracelets) out on the dresser and they only took one! They took the least expensive one and not my favorite (phew). They took the xbox, inside a cabinet, but not the bose cd player on top of the cabinet - the bose is worth more! I think the robber/s were young and don't know what they were doing.

But hey - my house was not trashed!

Yay renters insurance indeed--I never had that and I was lucky I never needed it!
