Capitalization, in sentences, especially in paragraphs, is very important. It is difficult to read well with out it.

Basically, it bugs the bejeezus out of me when people write using all lower case letters. It may be faster for the writer, but it's ever so slightly more difficult for this reader. I blame the advent of rampant text messaging.

I agree, and I think the difference is smaller for the typist (slightly faster) than for the reader (significantly more annoying).

James and I got to know each other first on e-mail; I'm not sure we'd be married now if either of us failed to capitalize (or punctuate, or use "me" and "I" appropriately, etc).

i never utilize capital letters in casual writing. aesthetically, i find all lower case writing to be much more pleasing. capitalizing the word "i", regardless of the intended audience, bothers me to no end. it's a strange linguistic convention that heavily conveys self-importance.

I know several people who prefer the aesthetics of all lower cases. I suppose I agree too. But I've been visually trained to read a certain way - 30 years of looking for sentence cues, etc. I have no problem capitalizing 'I'. I am important - if to no other person than to myself.

I loathe when people put NAK or nak in their subject line, then proceed to disregard all capitalisation and correct punctuation. It's mostly confined to the breastfeeding/cloth diapering communities. Come on, I also NAK and even PAK too, but I know where the shift keys and the caps lock keys are on the keyboard! Grrrrr!!!

PAK? I think there needs to be a code word for one handed typing. OHT?

Grammar was/is an invention, there is no natural law, that we MUST capitalize, at the beginning of sentences, or "i". Grammar is an organic entity like language, it's ever changing, we should welcome change. Unless your French. Go live in France.

What kills me regarding abbreviations is in personal adds. Back in the olden days when one had to pay for ads in newspapers abbreviation was common and necessary to save money. But now, internet sites that have personal ads, people still abbreviate even though they are allowed thousands of characters FOR FREE! (craigslist for example) Creatures of habit. I mean some of these abbreviations I don't even understand.
