If you've not seen this clip from Britain's Got Talent, please watch it right now. It's amazing. To see expressions on the jaded judges' and audience members' faces.... to see and hear unadulterated authenticity and talent... completely refreshing and quite moving.

Go Susan Boyle!

I too have been moved by this... and I was also annoyed at the way in which it was deemed utterly acceptable to acknowledge that somebody so 'ordinary' looking could have talent. Thankfully, our society has moved beyond the idea that someone who has a disability could have a talent, or someone from an ethnicity that is a minority could have a talent... but yet, it was deemed fine to acknowledge that Susan Boyle could easily be deemed as talentless... presumably because a/ she's a woman b/ she's single, c/ she's unemployed and d/ she isn't considered beautiful.

She was great... it made me think of Ignatius' 'the glory of god is found in a human being fully alive'.

There's an interesting article in today's Guardian about the Susan Boyle performance too... well worth reading...

I love the Ignatius quote! So true.

Pad, did you know I'm moving to Wales? I'll be so much closer to you! I can't wait!

my brother e-mailed me the link to her performance yesterday and i cried in joy. it was incredible to watch the expectations of the judges and the audience [and my own, to be honest] shatter as soon as she sang the first line.

I saw that yesterday and she brought tears to my eyes. there was something so sincere about her that you just want to hug her.

Huh, I hadn't seen that. I generally avoid those shows because they're train wrecks from every direction. I'm glad she showed that audience full of assholes, but I also feel a little sad that she even dignified them with her presence.

I really love that clip. I hate reality TV but this just seizes the whole nasty sideshow concept of it and turns it inside out. Grace often turns up when you least expect it.
