Go women, go me!

theatokosI am back in Berkeley. Back to papers (which I don't want to write, but have to), back to sun, back to the list of tasks I put off until summer (organizing papers and photos and stuff), back to the weight of reality (learn French! start on the thesis work! go!). But it's all good and oddly, I'm happy to be here.
One of the things I'm especially grateful for is the development of several female friendships. An email this morning reminded me of the joy of women's friendship and I reflected on the fact that for the last year or so I've had a decidedly male presence in my life. That seems to be shifting.
In that vein, I attended at lecture on women in the early church. We talked about early female saints, levitical influence on menstrual and child bearing purity codes, the issue of pants and veils in the church, and the order of female deacons (all in or from an Orthodox Christian perspective). Good stuff.
Now to work.
