Bennett's mouth

Bennett had to have his two front teeth pulled this afternoon. I am heart broken, but I'm glad he can start healing. The doctor was hesitant about nursing, because he needs to let the holes heal up. So no nursing until later tonight. Bennett does not like this. Not one bit.

My beautiful boy is going to have three teeth missing for years to come. No biting into apples. No biting into anything. But at least the bone is stable.

They had to restrain him: neck brace, velcro body burrito. He cried and cried while the nitrous took effect. Adam and I were not allowed to be present. But it took 15 minutes max. When I came to get him he was sitting on a nurse's lap. It was a great office.

I'm sure they don't allow parents to be present because any of us would go apeshit if we saw that happening to our kids. Again--poor little boy! Hopefully he won't remember any of it and won't be traumatized. Sam doesn't appear to remember his visit to the emergency room at age ~1.5 at all.

My bicycle fell over on him yesterday and caused serious trauma to his mouth. His two front teeth were at a 90 degree angle. He lost one side tooth immediately. But his front teeth got pulled today.

Awwww, so sorry to hear about his accident. That is horrible for all of you. I hope he can nurse soon, sounds like just what a sad little boy and his mom both need.

But insensitive-humour-in-an-attempt-to-lighten-things aside, I'm really sorry :(
If it's any consolation my scalp was like a noughts and crosses board of scars when I was little, all the times I was banging into things: Every little boy is going to take some nasty knocks and more importantly is going to learn something important from them (in my case, don't run across a wet kitchen floor ;) ). I guess you've learnt something too, you have coped with his first major accident and now have a better idea of how to cope with the ones to come.

Now I'll take my single, non parental arse to bed before I say something really stupid.
