"Everybody's broke, so here's the rule for Christmas this year; if you still shit your pants, you get a present. Otherwise tough shit."

Pretty much, yup.
But. I also think that kids who are still in diapers don't care about Christmas presents (you can wrap up and empty box and it's THE BEST GIFT EVER). It's the adults who are so busy taking care of the poopy pants that need the pick me up. 'What about the children?' No, what about the stressed out, over tired parents?

So is it gifts for the mamas and papa, or gifts for the wee ones? We can't afford both. The 10 and 4 year old nieces win though, because they fall into neither category.

My instinct says kids, even those that don't 'get it' yet.

I don't mean to sound cheesy - but something personal from you (like a letter where you write down a favourite memory you have of the person, or you write what they've meant to you this year or something like that) would probably be a better pick-me-up than a traditional present.

Yeah, I think a few pictures and a card would be a good idea. Man, that's a lot of work....

I forgot to say - shitmydadsays is one of the funniest things on twitter (which I still haven't quite figured out)

I don't follow on twitter. I don't 'tweet', but I read it like a website.

Yeah, the nieces are the important part but even so it doesn't have to be a huge deal. B would probably be happy with a big box and some ribbons.

We are buying each other a used minivan, and seriously considering wrapping a roll of toilet paper (that he can fling about the house!) for each toddler.

I (Twig) say...a photo of B or a photo calendar for grandparents, an empty box with lots of ribbon (love the toilet paper idea for B) and for you guys, a night out for each other or something for the house that you can both enjoy.

I stopped doing Christmas gifts for big people a couple of years ago ~ they get juicy birthday gifts ~ I just buy for the grandchildren.

I don't do Christmas as such ~ it isn't my festival & now the family are so scattered & we all prefer to keep travelling to a minimum, it works well for me. I look forward to a few days off ~ some good food & a selection of films. Bliss!
