It's only Sunday afternoon but it's been a great weekend. I took Friday off studying and spent it with B and Adam. I can't really remember what we did, but I know the pacing was perfect. We received a new sweater each from MM, which made me feel glamorous. Adam bought some wine in a spirit of generosity.

But the best part has got to be making friends with the neighborhood boys. A group of boys play football/soccer in the little yard between our house and the cemetery. Their goal is the wall of our house. Bennett loves to hear them play so Friday afternoon I took him out to watch. The boys, about 5 of them, aged 10, asked B to play. B was in heaven. He just chased after the boys, laughing, falling down and getting filthy muddy. For the last two days the boys have knocked on our door and asked if Bennett wanted to come out and play with them. The boys are really nice kids.

And to think that we were warned that this neighborhood was 'rough.'

That sounds so sweet!

I'm sure 'rough' is a relative term...

There *are* some weirdos that live around here, that's for sure. I hate to sound all classist and whatnot, but there are some serious 'white trash' folk up here. There's this one Clan that ALWAYS travels in a group. The grandma looks and sounds like a bad tranny. They're always smoking, even when pushing their baby around. No one looks sharper than a butter knife and they just emanate WEIRD.

Yay! I've been surprised by some of the boys in our neighborhood, too--rolling their basketballs gently to the boys, asking to push them in the swings, stuff like that.

And who says boys can't be kind and good with kids?

That is fantastic. Oh, I'm so happy he's found some playmates. :)

Between the Family Centre and the breastfeeding play group and neighbors, he's doing really well for friends! I've got one or two ladies that I really like and am developing friendships with. It's just Adam that needs some mates now.

Awww, that's cute. More than I would expect from older kids, of either gender in any kind of neighbourhood.

I know right? But while Bennett *is* cute and happy, Adam and I wonder if they don't like having me and/or Adam out there too. We seem to attract kids in this community like.... um, bears to honey? I think that many parents don't just talk and hang out with their kids, so when adults meet them where they're at (like kick a football or talk about what their interested in) it's like gold.
