Unexpected moments on the bus

(My god, two updates in a row.)
There is so much ugliness on the bus. Ugly people. Rudeness, especially in the form of not moving over, ignoring the reality that we are all crammed into a small space, not moving to the back of the bus when it's crowded. Cranky old people. Annoying conversations on cell phones. Youths being as loud as possible to get attention. Loud music on bad headphones. To counter these things this morning I reached into my bag to get my ipod, to zone out myself with music and headphones. Ack! I left my ipod at home! No music on the bus, no music at work. Alas. I sighed and looked out the window at the beautiful post-deluge day. A gentleman with loud music and headphones sat next to me. But what was I hearing? A gorgeous fluid strong soprano voice was rising from his headphones, hitting me with waves of beauty. I couldn't quite make out what it was. There were strings. Opera? Couldn't tell. I tapped the gentleman (not too much older than myself). It was Gorecki, a Hungarian singer, a chamber piece. The delight! I sat and listened along as best as I could without crawling into his lap and leaning my head on his shoulder.
I was sad when he gave up his seat to a [cranky] old woman. I wanted to thank him for providing some unexpected beauty to my morning, but the bus was crowded and I had to get off.

I love you.
